Ballantyne offers plenty of opportunities for individuals or families to get outside. With 15 parks in the area, you can easily change up your routine or normal scenery. Whether you are in the mood for walking trails, picnic tables for an outdoor lunch, playgrounds for the kids, or just beautiful scenery, the well-maintained parks offer the perfect setting.

3. Make your own pottery at Dish It Out Pottery Painting Studio.
Unleash your inner artist by creating your own pottery. Dish It Out offers a selection of hundreds of items. Choose the piece you like best and paint it any way you like using their wall of paints. Once you finish, the item will be glazed and fired in the kiln. Your pottery piece will be ready for pickup in about a week. Reservations are not required for in-studio painting.
To go kits are also available if you would rather paint from the comfort of your home. Simply choose your item and paint colors. Brush sets are available.
Covid-19 update: Dish It Out Pottery is operating at 50% capacity with reduced hours. Guests ages 5 and over must wear masks. Upon entering, guests are requested to wash or sanitize their hands and practice social distancing.
4. Get your game on at Sports Connection.
Stop by Sports Connection for ultimate fun for family and friends. From games, attractions, court and facility rentals, leagues, teams, camps, and more, Sports Connection has a variety of activities designed to keep you active.
The games and attractions include laser tag, jump-n-play, arcade games, ropes course, rock climbing, mini bowling, and bumper cars. Packages are available for birthday parties and group outings. Kids and parents both love the camps and clinics that are usually held during school breaks and holidays.

7. Take in the Monuments of Ballantyne.
Before its development, Ballantyne was an area of undeveloped farmland off of I-485. Created by Yugoslavian artist Boris Tomic, the Monuments of Ballantyne are archways that were erected to draw attention to the future of the Ballantyne neighborhood.
The four massive sculptures appear to be alike until you look more closely. The monuments signify Charlotte’s roots in finance, transportation, technology, and human spirit.

8. Go hiking or view the massive rocks at Big Rock Nature Preserve.
Enjoy the peace and tranquility of nature. Big Rock Nature Preserve is a 22-acre area named for its huge granite extrusions within the preserve. This nature preserve features an entirely forested area, a 4-mile creek, and a natural habitat for various plants and animals. The giant rock formations provide a notable geologic site within Mecklenburg County.

9. Shop til you drop at Ballantyne Village.
For a bit of retail therapy, check out Ballantyne Village. This open-air mall offers shopping, dining, and health and wellness services. Stroll through the village as you shop, dine, get a massage, see a movie, and so much more. Ballantyne Village is a full-scale shopping site with activities and experiences for the whole family including live music, art programs, kids’ events, and holiday activities.

10. Unwind at Duckworth’s Grill & Taphouse.
