What is the Best Way to Sanitize Your Toothbrush?

There are many ways to sanitize your toothbrush. When it comes to the overall care of your oral hygiene, this is something many people fail to realize. You cannot keep using the same toothbrush time and time again for years. In order to reduce the chances of contamination and bacteria infection, it is important to sanitize or replace the toothbrush entirely. The professionals here at Aten & Garofalo Dentistry understand the importance of good oral hygiene and this is one of the tips they give.

Replace or Sanitize Your Toothbrush

Some people just like to replace their toothbrush entirely to reduce the chances of cross contamination. It can also reduce the chances of putting the old bacteria back in your mouth. This is recommended every three months or so.

Between that time, you can also sanitize the toothbrush to help reduce the bacteria that are found on it each and every time you go to brush. You can do this whenever you see fit.

  • Antibacterial mouthwash is made so that not only can you clean your mouth, but also your toothbrush. Just soak it in there.
  • Store the toothbrush in a cup of hydrogen peroxide. This can be done every night.
  • Boil a toothbrush for around 3 to 4 minutes. Just be careful removing the toothbrush from the water, as this can be hot.
  • Place the toothbrush in the dishwasher to be sanitized. The hot water is a sanitizer for all of the items that are placed inside it.
