As a relatively new neighborhood, Ballantyne is not yet old enough to be considered historic. However, it does still have its own history and culture.
The 2,000 acres that we now call home were once part of the hunting preserve owned by former North Carolina governor Cameron Morrison. His grandchildren later developed the family farmland and the hunting preserve into developments for Charlotte neighborhoods.
The development of Ballantyne now includes a corporate park, country club, shopping centers, and art monuments. As plans for Ballantyne Reimagined get underway, the area will include additional residential areas, retail space, hotel rooms, performance areas, and parks. The design seeks to create a more walkable, urban neighborhood.
